Lime WashPorter's Original Lime Wash is a unique lime based coating blended with natural pigments designed to create the soft, weathered patina that simulates the appearance of the wonderful buildings of Tuscany, Portofino and other regions throughout the Mediterranean. Why Use Limewash Decorative Coating? Egyptians used it on Tutankhamen's tomb, Greeks applied it to the Acropolis, and Romans protected the Coliseum with limewash to gracefully withstand the test of time. Natural vs. Synthetic Synthetic coatings can fade, and are made from petroleum. Even the most innocuous contain small quantities of petroleum distillate such as toluene, which may affect the nervous system, to assist as an emulsifier. Timeworn structures with limewash appear to have grown out of the ground in which they stand, rather than standing out in stark contrast. These natural applications work well in modern, minimal settings too. Contemporary concrete buildings are no lesser candidates for limewash than historic homes. It's sufficiently more interesting and lively to look at than a coat of monotonous plastic. |
